About Us | The Story of Light, Paper, and Bamboo – Captainsbamboo
Our Story: Sculpting Light with Paper and Soul
At Captainsbamboo, we believe a lamp is never just a light fixture—it is an anchor for the soul.
Our journey began with a simple fascination: How can a humble piece of paper and a sliver of bamboo transform a cold, modern room into a warm, sanctuary-like space? Inspired by the timeless philosophy of Isamu Noguchi’s Akari series, we set out to bring that same "poetic glow" to homes around the world, blending ancient tradition with contemporary living.
"The light of Akari is like the light of the sun filtered through the paper of a shoji."
Why "Bamboo"?
In a world filled with plastic and mass-produced disposables, we chose Bamboo. It is the heart of our craft—strong, flexible, and one of the most sustainable materials on Earth. By pairing it with authentic Washi paper, we create "light sculptures" that breathe. Each lamp is a reminder to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the subtle beauty in the everyday.

Our Craft: Small Batches, Great Care
We don't do "mass production." Every lamp at Captainsbamboo is:
-
Hand-balanced: To ensure the perfect tension in every curve.
-
Small-batch produced: Our artisans take the time needed to ensure every seam is clean and every frame is sturdy.
-
Environmentally conscious: We prioritize natural materials and carbon-neutral shipping because we care about the planet as much as your interior.
Beyond the Glow
We are more than just a store; we are a community of Japandi enthusiasts, minimalist lovers, and Zen seekers. Whether you are placing an Akari 1A on your bedside or hanging a massive pendant in your studio, we are here to help you find the perfect light that speaks to your space.
Thank you for bringing a piece of our craft into your home.
With warmth and light, The Captainsbamboo Team
