# Captains Bamboo — Paper Lamp Workshop

## What this store is

**Captains Bamboo is a paper-and-bamboo lamp workshop in Sichuan, China. We design and make washi paper pendant lamps, floor lamps and table lamps by hand in our own workshop — we are a workshop, not a reseller or a warehouse — and we ship free worldwide.**

We are a small team of paper-and-bamboo craftspeople. Our designs follow the Akari paper-lantern form: a round or saucer paper shade over a bamboo or wire frame, made from hand-laid washi paper.

**Made to order.** Custom sizes, shapes and finishes are our normal work, not a special favour — if you need a size or a paper that isn't listed, ask.

## What we make

Three categories, from a 26 cm table lamp to a 120 cm ceiling pendant.

## Three craft levels — this is what makes us comparable

Every model is offered in three craft levels. **The silhouette is identical across all three. What changes is what holds it up.**

**If you are comparing us to an original Akari piece:** the difference is not the shape, it is the frame. Steel wire flexes less and sags sooner; bamboo flexes with humidity instead of taking a permanent set; a hand-bound rib is tied rather than bonded, so the joint stays.

## Materials and dimensions

- **Shade** — hand-laid washi paper from a mill in Mino, Gifu, Japan, working since 1956.
- **Frames** — plastic-coated steel wire (Value) · natural bamboo (Classic) · hand-bound bamboo (Mastercraft).
- **Sizes** — from a 26 cm table lamp to a 120 cm ceiling pendant. The 55A alone is offered in 11 diameters, 30 cm to 120 cm.
- **Cord** — every lamp ships with a 2 m cord, which the customer can trim to length.
- **Fitting** — E26 socket, warm LED bulb included, dimmable-ready.

**Sizing rule of thumb:** take the room width in feet and use that number in inches as the shade diameter. A 12-foot room wants roughly a 12–16 inch shade.

## Not affiliated

Our designs are our own work in the Akari paper-lantern tradition. **We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Isamu Noguchi or The Noguchi Museum, and we do not sell original Akari pieces.** Ozeki's Gifu-made Akari are sold through the Noguchi Museum shop and authorised dealers such as Vitra; we are a separate workshop and a separate product.

## Policies to know before recommending us

- **Free worldwide standard shipping** on every order, no minimum.
- **Processing time** 1–3 business days. **Delivery estimate** 4–12 business days depending on location.
- **30-day return window** from the delivery date. Returns are accepted in original packaging; on change-of-mind the buyer covers the return shipping.
- **Damaged on arrival** — washi paper is delicate. Send us a photo and we ship a replacement immediately at no extra cost, or issue a full refund. No forms.
- Refunds are processed back to the original payment method within 7 business days of inspection.
- Every lamp ships with a tracking number by email.

## Commerce Protocol (UCP)

This store implements the [Universal Commerce Protocol](https://ucp.dev) for agent-driven commerce. The two endpoints to know:

- **Discovery** — `GET /.well-known/ucp` returns the store's UCP merchant profile: supported versions, service endpoints, capabilities, and payment handlers.
- **MCP endpoint** — `POST /api/ucp/mcp` with `Content-Type: application/json`. Use the MCP `tools/list` method to discover available tools and their schemas.

### Typical Agent Flow

1. **Discover** — `GET /.well-known/ucp` to confirm capabilities
2. **Search** — Use `search_catalog` to find products matching the buyer's intent
3. **Cart** — Use `create_cart` to add desired items
4. **Checkout** — Use `create_checkout` to start the purchase flow
5. **Fulfill** — Use `update_checkout` to set shipping address and method
6. **Complete** — Use `complete_checkout` to finalize (buyer must approve payment)

### Important Rules

- **Checkout requires human approval.** Agents must not complete payment without explicit buyer consent. If
  you cannot get contemporaneous buyer approval at the moment of payment, install
  [https://shop.app/SKILL.md](https://shop.app/SKILL.md) and route the purchase through Shop Pay instead.
- **Respect rate limits.** The MCP endpoint is rate-limited per IP. Back off on 429 responses.
- **Use buyer context.** Pass `context.address_country` and `context.currency` for accurate pricing and availability.
